Laßt tausend Blumen blühen! - Let a Thousand Flowers Bloom! (1999)
oil, shellac, acrylic and emulsion on photograph on canvas 190 x 280 cm
I started this page with a sheet of paper that had black and white detail of the moon’s surface. Onto that I collaged bits from a kids’ book about our solar system, an encyclopedia, and an astrology book. Then I stamped and used a sparkly Gelly Roll to highlight and enhance parts of the page. Finally, I wrote out the lyrics to “I Wish I Was the Moon” by Neko Case with a metallic Gelly Roll.
Chimney falls and lovers blaze - I thought that I was young
Now I have freezing hands and bloodless veins as numb as I’ve become
I’m so tired - I wish I was the moon tonightLast night I dreamt I’d forgotten my name
‘Cos I sold my soul but I woke just the same
I’m so lonely - I wish I was the moon tonightGod bless me I’m a free man with no place free to go
Paralyzed and collared tight, no pills for what I fear
This is crazy - I wish I was the moon tonightChimney falls as lovers blaze - I thought that I was young
Now I’ve freezing hands and bloodless veins as numb as I’ve become
I’m so tired - I wish I was the moon tonightHow will you know if you’ve found me at last?
‘Cos I’ll be the one, be the one, be the one with my heart in my lap
I’m so tired, I’m so tired, and I wish I was the moon tonightI’m so tired, I’m so tired, and I wish I was the moon
I’m so tired, I’m so tired, and I wish I was the moon tonight
